The NA6 is where AIM's shielding architecture takes a meaningful step forward. Three genuinely different shielding materials — not three layers of the same approach — each targeting a different slice of the noise spectrum, plus a conductive inner sheath and a directional drain wire design that orients ground flow for optimal signal transmission.
The Three-Layer Hoplon Architecture
Aluminum shield: targets high-frequency interference with the flexibility to wrap cleanly without cracking. Copper shield: broad-spectrum coverage with particular strength in the audio band. High-density copper braid: exceptional low-frequency shielding that, combined with the copper shield, creates a noise barrier that passive filtering cannot easily match.
The conductive inner sheath — made from AIM's proprietary functional material — adds another layer of noise control from within rather than just at the perimeter. And the asymmetric drain wire grounds from one end only, by design. Install it in the correct direction and the signal path is cleaner for it.
The Purple Jacket
The NA6 comes in a distinctive purple jacket, which makes it easy to identify in a rack and has become something of a signature for the cable. We appreciate that AIM doesn't hide their better cables — the purple announces itself as a considered choice rather than a commodity.
