Steinmusic Ground Cube

We'll be honest about our experience with the Ground Cube, because that's the only useful thing we can tell you about a device like this.

Unboxing it: a cube, a cleverly designed ground cable with multiple attachment options, and a compass. The compass gave us pause. We attached the power plug to one end of the ground cable and plugged it into our power conditioner. Holger Stein advised us to orient the Ground Cube so the binding post on the cube faced north or south — hence the compass.

Once connected and oriented, it took about a minute to start hearing what was happening. First: more low-level detail, the signature of a lower noise floor. Musical layers became more distinct. The soundstage deepened and widened. Individual instruments occupied more defined positions in the space.

We don't have an explanation for why orientation matters. We can tell you that it does, consistently, across multiple listening sessions and multiple positions.

What It Is

The Ground Cube is a passive device that connects to a ground point in your system. No power supply. No active circuitry. Holger Stein's approach to ground noise conditioning uses what he describes as quantum physics — a phrase that gets deployed loosely in audio, but in Stein's case represents a genuine design methodology behind the SteinMusic product line that has produced consistent, peer-reviewed sonic results across many implementations.
