The Super Naturals Signature footer is Holger Stein's answer to the question of how to deal with resonance in audio equipment without simply damping it to death. Damping resonances, as Stein points out, also dampens vital acoustic energy — the solution isn't pure absorption but controlled transfer. The Super Naturals Signature uses natural wood with ceramic rods and specially impregnated felt pads to achieve this.

The Design Premise

Resonances are present in all audio equipment. If we dampen them, we do not only dampen resonances but also vital acoustic energy. If we isolate components, resonances are trapped inside and cause smearing. The Super Naturals Signature takes a different approach: controlled energy transfer using materials with specific acoustic properties. Ceramic rods have very fast energy transfer characteristics. The felt pads are impregnated with Stein's treatment — which changes their behavior from simple damping to something more acoustically specific.

Natural Materials

The Signature uses natural wood as the primary body material — a deliberate choice for its acoustic properties over manufactured materials. Combined with the ceramic rods and treated felt pads, the result is a footer that addresses resonance without removing the life from the music.
