Innuos LPS1 Linear Power Supply

If you own a STREAM1 without the LPS1, this is the conversation you need to have. The STREAM1 ships with a medical-grade filtered switch-mode power supply — it's not a generic wall wart, but it is still a switch-mode design. The LPS1 replaces it entirely with a proper linear supply, and the sonic difference is not subtle.

The Hardware

150VA toroidal transformer. Premium Mundorf and Nichicon capacitors in the filtering stage. Medical-grade AC input filtering before the transformer. A 4mm chassis ground port for connecting to an external ground reference if your system includes one. This is a straightforward, well-executed linear power supply — no exotic materials or esoteric claims, just the right components implemented correctly.

Why It Matters

Switch-mode power supplies operate by rapidly switching a transistor on and off — typically at hundreds of kilohertz — and that switching generates noise that rides back onto the AC line and into the DC rails feeding the host equipment. A linear supply has none of that mechanism. The transformer converts AC to a lower AC voltage, capacitors store charge, and regulation circuits provide stable DC. No switching, no high-frequency noise generation, no contamination of the rails the STREAM1's audio circuitry depends on.

The STREAM1's own careful circuit design — isolated output bay, SLC SSD for the OS, the Innuos real-time Linux kernel — can only deliver its full potential when the power supply feeding it matches the quality of what it's supplying. The LPS1 is that supply.
