ModWright PH 150 Reference Tube Phono Stage
ModWright PH 150 Reference Tube Phono Stage
The PH 150 is the phono stage that defines ModWright's approach to analog. From its design, the PH 9.0, PH 9.0X, and PH 9.0XT derive their topology, their components, and their sonic character. The PH 150 is where those designs look up to — the fully resolved expression, without the compromises that a more accessible price point requires.
The Architecture
Lundahl MC step-up transformers at the moving coil input — the same Swedish-made transformers in the PH 9.0, now in the reference implementation where the surrounding circuit can fully support them. Dual-mono construction throughout. Tube rectification in a separate power supply chassis. Front-panel gain and loading controls. Zero global negative feedback. Dan Wright's reference analog design, built without budget constraints.
Press Recognition
The ModWright PH 150 has been reviewed by The Absolute Sound, Stereophile, and Hi-Fi+ as one of the finest tube phono stages available at any price, with particular praise for the Lundahl transformer implementation and the front-panel convenience of loading adjustment.
