Douk Audio A5 Amplifier with Sparkos Opamp and GaN Power Supply
The Douk A5 had a moment last year when the YouTube audio community discovered it as the most interesting TPA3255 chip amp at any price. The glass top, the swappable opamps, the build quality — it stood out in a crowded field. This one has been upgraded past the stock configuration in two meaningful ways and is being offered at a price that makes it an easy decision.
The Upgrades
Sparkos Labs SS3602 discrete opamps replace the stock units. Sparkos opamps are well-regarded in the DIY and modification community for adding warmth and dimensionality to Class D amplifiers specifically — the stock chips in these amps are functional but the Sparkos units are genuinely better. Retail value on the opamps alone is $180.
The Ayima GaN switching power supply replaces the stock supply. GaN switching supplies operate at much higher frequency than conventional switchers, pushing their noise well above the audio band. The result is better dynamics and less of the digital grain that stock Class D power supplies can introduce.
How It Sounds
More warmth and soul than a stock TPA3255 amp — that's the accurate description. It doesn't sound like a chip amp in the way the category usually sounds. It competes with Class AB amplifiers at multiples of this price in terms of musicality, while maintaining the efficiency and low heat of Class D. 9/10 condition, original box and packaging.
Press Recognition
New Record Day, Cheap Audio Man, and Old Hifi Guy all reviewed the stock Douk A5 on YouTube, each noting it as exceptional value. The Sparkos and GaN upgrades are documented in the DIY audio community as meaningful improvements beyond the already-strong stock unit.
